Role overview
The Templar is the primary tank of AION 2. Armed with a Longsword, it specialises in defense, high HP and aggro generation, holding boss attention so the rest of the group can deal damage safely.
Why play Templar
- Best-in-class survivability — the highest base defense and HP of any class.
- Reliable aggro — dungeon groups almost always want a Templar holding the boss.
- Party utility — attack and defense buffs raise the whole group's output.
- Forgiving to learn — mistakes hurt a Templar far less than a squishier class.
How it plays
Keep your taunt and mitigation abilities cycling, position the boss away from the group and use your defensive cooldowns on telegraphed heavy hits. Because AION 2 is built around verticality, a Templar also controls the fight by holding ground in the air and on the ground.
Gearing & build tips
- Prioritise HP and defense early, then layer in block and cooldown reduction.
- Keep a Shield for panic-block windows and a Longsword for stable threat.
- Pair with a Cleric or Chanter for the smoothest dungeon runs.
PvE vs PvP
In PvE, Templar is the anchor of every hard dungeon and raid. In PvP, its durability and crowd control make it extremely hard to kill, though its damage ceiling is lower than dedicated DPS classes.
